Law Office of
Stephen Fiegel
Welcomes You

Every California employer and employee has certain employment rights and obligations. An experienced employment law attorney can help you understand them and recognize when certain workplace conduct may be unlawful. I am admitted to practice law in California and I have over 30 years of experience working primarily in the area of employment law. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Maryland, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

I represent small business owners and employees in employment-related matters including:

  • wage and compensation claims before the California Labor Commissioner’s Office

  • Unemployment Insurance, Disability Insurance, and Paid Family Leave benefit claims before the California Employment Development Department

  • equal pay claims before the California Labor Commissioner's Office and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

  • workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, and request for reasonable accommodations with the California Civil Rights Department and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

  • wrongful termination, and whistleblowers.

I also:

  • prepare, review, and revise employee handbooks

  • draft employment, independent contractor, severance, and settlement agreements

  • handle grievance arbitration, mediation, and contract (collective bargaining agreements) negotiations

  • provide California mandated sexual harassment training

  • handle cases involving applications for disability and industrial disability retirement benefits with CalPERS, CalSTRS & SCERS.

I created this website (with information obtained from the websites of California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Employment Development Department, the Department of Industrial Relations, the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, and the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, and the U.S. Department of Labor) to help small business owners and employees navigate through confusing workplace employment rights and obligations. If you ever have any questions, please contact me for a FREE confidential consultation at (916) 333-4653 or Stephen_Fiegel_ESQ@comcast.net.
